Our Team

Jennifer Thomé, Founding Partner and Project Director
Jennifer has been working in and on China for the past ten years. A lifelong volunteer, Jennifer has worked with many charities, both international and grassroots. In 2008, she decided to put her fluency in Chinese and web skills to use, and dedicated herself to creating the Lasso Guide to Charity in China. She is currently working as the managing editor of Agenda magazine in Beijing.

Clara Ma, Founding Partner
Fangfang Ma started her college life in a military school in one of the poorest provinces in China, Henan province. Living in this region, she became extremely interested in using her skills to improve the lives of the poor rural communities, and donated more than 3,000 tapes of her own English lessons to rural schools. On top of her work as an entrepreneur in rural education, she also actively participated in a variety of NGO research and events organized by the public policy department. Her experiences have taught her the value of charitable activity, and she has brought her passion and experience to the The Lasso Guide to Charity in China to help others get involved, and to help create internships for students who share her dream.

Jay Zhang, Research Intern
The tallest of the team, Jay was a professional basketball player throughout high school years and brings his passion and energy to all of his projects, be they conducting research of The Lasso Guide to Charity in China, working at one of the biggest financial institutions in China, or traveling throughout Asia. Jay attended college in Singapore and earned his BS from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He began his charitable involvement in Singapore, where he taught English and organized activities for students of difference nationalities at the Tabernacle of Joy family center.
Jenny Wang, Research Intern
Although Jenny was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she has lived in China for half of her life. She is currently studying law in Beijing’s Renmin University, and working part-time as a model, translator, and as an intern in Chinese law firms. Jenny has always felt a strong desire to help people and to join charities, and she is using her experience at The Lasso Guide to Charity in China to broaden her knowledge of charitable organizations and their function.

  1. We would like to seek help to do volunteering work for children/orphanage such as teaching English, Mathematics…
My daughter, Sharmaine, is 16 years old and she is proficient in both English and Chinese and your recommendation for placement will be helpful. As we are a Singaporean family, currently living in Beijing (Sunyi district), we hope you can help to connect us to a orphanage where we can do volunteering work during weekends.

Looking forward to receiving your reply soon!
